Service Branches
The fighting forces of Russia are collectively managed under the Russian Armed Forces banner and encompasses six major branches of service: the Russia Air Force, the Russian Army, the Russian Navy, Aerospace Forces, Airborne Forces, and Special Operations Forces as part of the Ministry of Defence in Moscow. In its current form, the organization was established in May of 1992 following the collapse of the Soviet Empire (the Imperial Russian Army dates back to 1721).
