Russian Land Forces
Combat Vehicles | Support
Russian Land Forces suffered mightily after the fall of the Soviet Empire in 1989-1991 but consistent progress and increased spending has reestablished a suitable military industrial base. Modernization has kept alive many of its Soviet Cold War-era systems including vast supplies of T-72 and T-80 tanks. The T-90 remains the most modern offering to the service. However, aging T-64, T-62, and T-54 Main Battle Tanks still remain in ative circualtion with many pressed into combat service in the Russo-Ukrainian War. Mobility is being enhanced with adoption of key MRAP-type wheeled vehicles and rocket-projecting systems still play a critical role for the Russians. Despite its size, the modern Russian Army does find a balance between tracked and wheeled vehicle systems.
